
Melissa Crystal O'Neil, born on July 12 1988[1,] is a Canadian actor and singer from Canada. O'Neil, the first Canadian female winner of Canadian Idol's 3rd season, won it in 2005. O'Neil is well-known for her performances on Syfy's science-fiction series Dark Matter. O'Neil was popular for her character in The Rookie as Officer Lucy Chen. She was voted as being in the bottom two or three of the finals. After being shocked, judges asked viewers to vote for Melissa as the most vocal contestant. O'Neil was praised for her performances and never fell back to the third place. Zack Werner declared that O'Neil was "a threat" to win the entire contest. On September 7, 2005 O'Neil made it to the final two spots of the contest, along with Rex Goudie, and after some more impressive performances and performances, judge Werner famously said that the headlines in the next day's newspapers would be "The King [Kalan Porter] is dead and long live the Queen." O'Neil defeated Goudie in the final results broadcast on September 14, 2005 . He went on to be crowned the third Canadian Idol.
